In the San Diego Catholic Diocese, there are dozens of priests who have been credibly accused of sexual abuse. Many of them deny these accusations, even when multiple survivors come forward.

It’s important to note that not all these cases end up going to court. The most common reason is that it can be difficult for many survivors of sexual abuse to come forward and confront their abusers. Some may even assume that it is too late to get justice.

In California, cases of sexual assault have a statute of limitations that changes depending on the age of the person who was abused. For example, if the person was an adult at the time of the abuse, the time limit is 10 years from the date of the offense. However, if the person was a minor when they were abused, they have until their 40th birthday to bring charges.

Below is a list of the priests accused of abuse in San Diego by the number of cases. We understand that there are many survivors who haven’t reported their abuse, whether due to fear, shame, or frustration. It can be hard to know where to turn, but you’re not alone.
