The Clergy Cases I
Between 2002 and 2015, Raymond Boucher led efforts that resulted in several multimillion dollar settlements, including one in 2007 that culminated in a $660 million settlement between survivors of childhood sexual abuse and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in hundreds of cases pending together in the California Judicial Council Coordinated Proceeding No. 4286 (“The Clergy Cases I”). This landmark settlement did not merely provide compensation to survivors, it required the LA Archdiocese to publicly release its personnel files on sexually offending priests within its ranks, to restore power to the victims and reveal the knowledge that had been kept secret for decades about the predators they placed into Roman Catholic schools and parishes in the Los Angeles area. Boucher fought for years to ensure that the LA Archdiocese and religious orders released the Clergy files, which are provided below.
